Reporter RDG Milano Leather Jacket Scam

So, my brother comes over with 3 supposedly Dolce & Cabana jackets.  Yet, when I looked at them all I see its label reads "Reporter RDG Milano."  My brother told me that some guy stopped him in the parking lot at a mall here in San Antonio, Texas.  This guy was dressed in a suit, called my brother over, told him he was flying back to Italy and couldn't take these jackets back with him because he would have to pay taxes on them.  My brother said this guy had an italian accent, drove a rental car, showed him his papers/passport/plane tickets, was nicely clean cut, and told my brother he was trying to get rid of these D&C jackets he had in his car.  There were 4 and he was trying to sell them for $600 total.  My brother said he didn't have that, so he tried to ignore the italian guy.  Very persistant, the guy continued to call on my brother.  My brother saw that jackets, was impressed, and told the guy he only had $183.  The guy agreed to give him the 4 jackets for $183.  My brother turned and reached for his money to hand over to this guy.   By the time my brother pulled out all the jackets to look at them, he noticed that only 3 were included and this mysterious italian guy was long gone.  I searched the web for this brand of jackets and found nothing.  Then, I eventually came across a website talking about this exact scam going on in America and we could not stop laughing.  So many people throughout the country have been scammed with this exact same scenario.   Although the jackets are brand new, smell new, smell like some leather, aren't bad looking.............don't fall for it.  Offer a much lower amount for the jackets....like $50 for all of them, lol.  I hope these guys get caught.

I was about to pay 600 for all 4, on my way to the atm i google the brand and figure out something is fishy. Still ended up paying 300 for 2 jackets because I liked how they look lol. 19. ha..ha... ha... I can't believe this happened to me but honestly I was suspicious and that is why i told this guy my ATM allowance is $200. When i bring the cash, he came up with an idea to buy him something from electronic shop with my Credit Card.

    Here is my story.
When I arrive at Vaughan, ON Costco, this Italian dude was in his white SUV car. He first asked me how to get to the airport showing me the map. I tried to look to the back sit and there was a luggage. His English is poor (now i bet that is on purpose).

Then, when i was about to leave, he told me he came for some fashion show and he left these three jackets (actually nice looking and brand new) and he doesn't want to to take it back to Italy to avoid customs. He told me he will give me two of the jackets but i have to pay half price ($600) for the last one.

I had mixed feeling but i thought, if i get fooled $200 is enough. So, i told him, i don't have cash my ATM allowance is only $200 per day. He hesitated and finally he said ok.

But when returned back he asked me to buy him iPad with my credit card. I told him I am in hurry. Well, he took the money.

But i thought i jackets are defective at first when i saw the guy is already left in speed of light. Well, the jackets are nice looking and it says "made in Italy" all over the place.

The major issue is, it smells fuel and i couldn't even keep it in the house.

Since i thought losing $200 for good or bad reason was ok, i am laughing now...

    Funny Italian dude...!!!

He was in amarillo today offered me five jackets for $500 but i told him i didnt have that kind of money so i told him i only had $150 and he took it and was long gone. I was suspicious as well but they are some nice jackets even though they do smell like fuel as well lol. I know i'll get my money back pretty quick.

  24. i bought three for 220$, i was smart and pulled out my small spending cash because i always roll with over $5,000 on me, i talked him down from the 350 i had in my money clip because "i had to drive back home to sudbury from brampton ontario in canada, he took the 220$ and split real quick... said he didn't speak much english and then miraculasly spoke descent enough english (italian was his main language) that's where i thought it was a scam other than him not asking for directions and just cutting to the jackets deal... i checked each learher jacket (both) and the ultra suede jacket promply and realized the value was well worth $700 per leather and even more for the suede maybe, anyways he was at the canadian tires store parkinglot at the steeles and hurontario (hwy 10) location, i'm still telling everyone that they're real but the guy was VERY VERY concerned that i wouldn't try to sell them from a store front i.e. my store front but i told him several times that i didn't have a store for clothing or otherwise.... i wish i could buy more from him.. i know twenty people minimum just at my families that want one each and my wifey's an exotic dancer so she knows a few hundred people that want to buy my jackets... i won't sell them but have been offered $1,400 for just the hooded leather jacket alone by several people and won't sell because it's worth that to me- i bought a PELLE PELLE leather jacket last year for $700 plus taxes and feel that this jacket is ten times warmer, softer and more comfortable so wish i had gotten a real contact from him even if it is a "scam" but if i see him again... AND I HOPE I WILL, i'm gonna make him an offer to buy 300 of the hooded leather jackets and 100 of the other two types-leather and suede- hope everyone else had some common sense to realize that these guys aren't italian management for D&G but tried to negotiate the prices, other than that i have my receipt from when i was at the canadian tires so if the police would like to track them down, the cameras should have gotten the vehicles liscence plate number and that should lead the police to the people that sold me my jackets... "I WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT THESE JACKETS ARE PROBABLY STOLEN TO BEGIN WITH AND ARE WORTH MORE THAN WHAT THEY ARE ASKING FOR THEM, I HOPE THAT IF THIS IS ILLEGAL THAT THE CULPRETS ARE CAUGHT AND THE MASTERMIND/THIEFS/SALESPERSONS (WHICH MUST BE MORE THAN JUST TWO PEOPLE SELLING THEM IN CANADA AND OR THE STATES) GET THEIR JUST DESSERT" "I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT KARMA IS A BITCH SO IT WILL GET THEM HURT WHEN THEY GET ROBBED EVENTUALLY AND OR MURDERED FOR SCAMMING PEOPLE THAT FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY ARE STAYING... IN TORONTO ONTARIO CANADA THERE ARE ALOT OF THUGS AND GANGS ASWELL AS THE STATES THAT WILL MAKE THESE GUYS WISH THAT THEY HAD STAYED HOME OR WERE SELLING REAL FASHION NAME BRANDS" we didn't get ripped off by the value of the merchandise BUT WE DID GET SUCKERED INTO BELEIVEING THAT THESE ARE GENUINE D&G 2013 FASHIONS SO JUST RELAX..... ENJOY YOUR NEW CLOTHES AT A GREAT DISCOUNT(i.e. not paying for the name) BECAUSE THE QUALITY OF THESE ARE GENUINE, I WORK ON MY CARS IN MY JACKETS SO THEY GET RUINED REALLY QUICKLY WITH OILS, GREASE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID/ GEAR LUBRICANTS, DIRT AND RUST.... so i'm actually happy that they're fake and i'm not ruining a true peice of art everyday--- rolling on the floor holding my gut in tears laughing my mother fracking azz off

  28. Dec 7th 4pm Brampton Ontario at Hwy 7/Queen St E and Dixie, Same story, 1 "italian" guy just finished fashion selling business deal, going back to italy and looking for directions for the airport, after telling him how to get there he was so greatful was offering to give me 4 jackets (all small) for helping him with directions. Showed quality of leather by lighting a lighter on it and tells you to feel it. Then when saying i don't feel comfortable accepting it, he says he has a nephew back home and wants to buy him a Playstation, asks there value, got me to give him 350 for 4 jackets, once i got the money and got the jackets, he was gone like the wind and i then realized there were only 3 in the bag. Mother Fucker!!

  29. Dec 10th, Fell for the same scam as Mcgruber420. Guy about 25yrs with earring, driving white Honda civic rented in Vaughan. Sold me the same story about wanting directions to airport. I spent some time directing him, he said he wanted to give me a gift of the jackets but just needed 350 for the cost of the rental car. I felt sorry for him because he wanted to travel and needed the money. He followed me to the ATM, but I told him all I could get was the 200. He took one of the 5 jackets out of the bag, and said he can only give me 4. I did not even check the jackets. Anyway, for $50 a piece the aren't too bad. Each one is different. Feel like a sucker now...

  31. Toronto @ bathurst/finch-steeles, Giuseppe, silver/grey SUV.
Approx 25-30 yrs old, 5'7, light-brown hair, Italian passport, multiple debit/credit cards,
Happened Dec 8 at Gas station - cameras would have him, but I don't have time for this.
Everyone, recommend we all post vehicles, descriptions, etc, as soon as it happens. The more detail the better.

FYI: the jackets were taken to 7-8 high-end specialty stores for opinions from pro-salesmen & managers.
    Price: 20-50 CAD.
    Material: PVC
I feared this the moment I took a closer look at them - I was basically the equivalent of drunk when he sold them to me. Consider, on a positive note, that we all paid for a good lesson.

  33. Was approached by Giuseppe today at Markham Road and Milner (TORONTO) at the Food Basics parking lot (Right around the corner from the cops! Guys got some balls!). Mentioned that he was fashion guy, had a meeting with Harry Rosen, ha some jackets as company comp, blah blah. He also mentioned that he was on his way to the airport to fly to Milan with Alitalia for later this afternoon. It was at that point that I had my suspicions about him as Alitalia doesn't fly to Milan from Toronto on Tuesdays (a tidbit that I know offhand as I work in the travel industry). I decided to humour him and see his shtick anyway. I don't know when exactly, but some time during his con, I decided I had enough and left.

Giuseppe was driving a grey Kia Soul, but I didn't get a plate number. denver15243's description is on point. If approached by the guy, keep away.

Being a sucker I paid $140 for one jacket and it's not even Medium like he said it's Large. The business card he gave me is Emporio Armani so I thought this was the legit shit. Had I took a closer look, I'd have realized they wouldnt use hotmail as their business email. His name was Gabriele Monti and drove a Ford SUV. Pulled the same scheme on how he has to catch a flight to Sydney for another fashion show and his "secretary" kept calling us and he kept ignoring it making it all the more believable. Guh poor old sucker in me got done good right after my convocation today.

  63. I got scammed a month ago in Thornhill, Ontario. Same story about going to the airport etc., etc. I pride myself on being diligent with this kind of stuff. Why I fell for it will always be a mystery to me. I guess the guy was really good... :(

Now, I grew up in mens retail and I know the difference between leather and plastic. When he first showed me a jacket, (he offered me three for $250.00), I felt it and it was definitely leather. The other two were in plastic wrapping so I did not get to touch them. I figured if I could talk him down to $100.00 for the three I couldn't lose. We settled on $100.00 and while I pulled the money out of my wallet, he put the jackets into a bag. I gave him the money and took the bag. When I got home there were only two "plastic" jackets in the bag and not the original leather one. I won't even wear either of them as I'll sweat like I'm in a sauna. This bastard needs to drive into a hydro pole on his way to the airport....

  72. This happened to my 81 year old mother on October 10th ,2013 in Montreal, Quebec he and his partner in crime scammed my mother out of 4000 dollars. My mother is devastated! She is now afraid to leave the house. He used the pretext that that I had ordered the jackets...where he got my name remains a mystery. My mother was manipulated and actually entered her home. Thank God nothing happened to her. I brought the jackets to the police station and made a declaration with the little information I had. But the police officer found a twin story and linked both cases as a theft. Goods are stolen and were confiscated. This happened in the little Italy area. I hope we will come face to face in the same scenario but this time he will get caught! If anyone has more detailed information please bring it forth. This will happen again!

  73. All the exact same scenario.... I got screwed as I paid $280 for 5 jackets.
In Toronto Ontario Canada back in the summer.

  74. Wow, i have one of these kackets and i must ask...unless mine is very different, which from the description it is not, can you not tell that these are VERY high quality? Just because you bought these likely hot (stolen) DOES NOTEAN YOUVE BEEN "SCAMMED". Being scammed would mean you recieved a crap product for too high a price. as.others have said, how about you enjoy the great deal you got instead of complaining? These are BEAUTIFUL coats, and you got your $$ worth plus more. AGAIN buying something hot is NOT the same thing as being scammed! You are lucky to have the product you have at the price you paid-stop staring down your gift horse!

  75. Same thing happened to me in Burlington ON. Italian guy asking for directions to the airport. Got 3 faux leather jackets for $200. I suspected they were probably they were knockoffs when I gave him the money, but figured at that price what could go wrong. Feel pretty stupid now since I doubt I will wear them. It would be sort of like wearing a come scam me sign. I guess I will donate them to the local goodwill. $200 isn't too much cash and I guess it is no worse than losing money at the Casino.

  76. I too just got scammed for $150.00 for 4 nice looking jackets. The same two Italian guys in a Ford SUV in the plaza north of Pickering Town Center outside the RBC.
Same story about finishing a fashion show in Toronto and heading to the Airport and need directions.
He claimed to be a fashion designer and was grateful for the assistance and gave me the four jackets samples and then ask for $300 to pay for the car rental as his credit cards are maxed out.
I told him I can only give him $150.00. He took it.
I came home and googled the R.D.G Italia brand and found this site about the scam.
Well we live and learn. I might as well use these jackets as they are quite nice.

  77. My husband just got scammed today for $100 for 2 plastic jackets and 1 'suede' jacket, outside Walmart at the St. Clair and Runnymede parking lot. Same story, Italian guy here finishing a fashion show, looking for direction to the airport and didn't want to take the jackets back and pay taxes etc. The phony business card he gave reads Marcorossi@harryrosen.com, Harry Rosen, president's club, top man fashion clothing. Now my husband knows the truth about these jackets he doesn't want to keep them in the house so he will take them to Value Village. I feel bad for him. He meant to give them as gifts but they are tainted by lies.

  78. I too just got scammed for $300 for 4 nice looking jackets in Oakville. Guy in a black Ford SUV on his way to the airport from a fashion show. Had a gut feeling this was a scam but the jackets were nice. Having a good laugh about it now.

  79. He in Toronto now he stop me with the same scenario. Driving BMW x1

  80. He got me with the same story...even showed me his Italian passport...asked me for directions and then GAVE me a 4 coats/ jackets just for being a "nice guy" and giving him directions....Actually she really likes 3 of them and I do think 2 are pretty good for me...I ended up with about 10...damage was approx $500, and could've been way worse...I had plenty of cash on me and he saw it...Some gifts to give now. I had a feeling it was a scam when he started showing me how they didn't catch fire with his lighter ...Oh well..

  81. Is it legal to resell these things in order to recoup my costs?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Happened to my husband yesterday (Ottawa/Canada area). Same MO; needing directions to the airport etc. Damage $200.00 for two 'faux' leather and one suede jacket at not so bad a price when considering the quality plus lining and the workmanship of the garments themselves. A little to be desired regarding the fit, but one does fit 'him' well ..... and a lesson learned; NEVER buy anything out of the back of a trunk! As for the downside, I feel badly for those who paid much more for them and who were also scammed, but hopefully they will look at the glass as half full, rather than half empty and remember 'what goes around, comes around' eventually and chances are this individual will approach the wrong person. In other words, his luck is going to run out and his scamming days will come to an end.

  83. Add me to the list of morons who fell for this scam. Driving a white Luxury SUV in the Rona parking lot in the Stockyards area. Same deal .... flicked a lighter to show me how good the jacket was .... feel for it hook, line and $500. Should know better but not this time.

  84. I didn't think I would ever fell for a scam like this .. until yesterday :)

Guy pulls in front of me (black van, Quebec license plates) - front of Shoppers Drugmart, Bayview and York Mills, Toronto. "Italian" accent, he is "very lost" and asked me for directions to Pearson Airport. He is an "Italian designer on a work trip to Toronto and leaving today for Milan"; makes pleasant conversation and I took him for granted. Insists on giving me three designer leather jackets for FREE (each is valued at $700). He got them as samples (or gifts) from the company he was visiting, but doesn't want to take them back to Italy as they are not his size and he is not willing to pay customs, so he'd rather give them away. Initially I refused, but thinking I will give them as gifts to my brothers in law, I accepted.

Then he is showing me his car rental receipt, and he says that he overbooked his car, and asks if I can maybe help him with the payment since he was so nice to give me the jackets. Thinking back, I should've walked away at this point, but for some reason I didn't doubt his story at all !

Had $200 cash with me... gone. My wife calls it "the tax for stupidity". I agree.

Donated the three jackets, hope they find a good home.

  87. There in windsor Ontario right now. I bought 7 jackets for 300 good deal I think lol nice looking jackets. Going to keep one myself then use the rest for Christmas gifts

    ReplyDelete
  88. I now have 6, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ I'll skip the whole story though, because all I want is to sell them, so if anyone wants one from xxl to medium please call me. Of course you know that they're all perfectly unused but here perfectly unwanted, so please someone call because whoever you buy them for will love them this Christmas, and you don't have to tell them how much it costs or where it came from, just get it before we actually do put an ad in the community paper.

You'll love them for Christmas gifts. I really don't have to go on because everyone said it all. Except these Jackets are Collezione Reportage "R.D.G. Luxury. "They're just knock offs, and they're classy knock offs, a scam is falling for the lie, like we do when we go shopping at Leons, badboy Best Buy, Canadian tire, appliance and furniture stores, gadget stores, and any other store or company that is full of lies just to sell products. So if the answering machine is going when you call just leave a message (it’s about the Jackets, and got your message from this blog), and Ed or I will call you back.

I'm Ari my partner is Ed and we don't put our number anywhere online, except for now. Come see them by calling me before they're gone. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 905 717 0392. Yours Truly ArishmaryCanada @ http://on.fb.me/ArishmaryCanada http://twitter.com/arishmaryshow

PS: If we do put an ad in the paper we’ll have to put in some way that it is a knock off, but the best kind, just like all the other knock offs people buy and love (all those leather knock off things like purses, gloves and shoes and even jackets), except these are worth more to someone who can’t afford the real thing but wishes they could. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Thank you.

  94. So I am on my way to Home Depot. This lil BMW suv pulls up:
"Excusa me " (bad Italian accent) "Which way to airport please?"
Turn left and follow that road...signs along way.
" Thanka you". "Can I giva yous a gift?"
    Sure...so we pull over.
Story is he and friend on way back to Italy (***ding-ding, bells going off)
He hands me a bag and stuffs a xl jacket in it..."A gift for your help"
Your welcome, i turn to walk away...."1 minuto, for your mrs" and stuffs another blue suede jacket.....then a 3rd jacket...followed by a 4th and finally a 5th.
"I have to fly back to Italy and do not want to pay duties and taxes"
(***DING-DING!**) Italian made and paying duty to go back to Italy?
"If you cans sir, a small token for over $4,000 worth of jackets? Maybe, say $500?"
I remember reading about this scam a few years ago.....open my wallet, a couple moths fly out and I have $25.....meanwhile, bag is in truck, doors locked and I am in possession.
"Surely we can follow you to your bank to get some more cash."
You bet, I start truck, jump curb and drive down 72 ave, look in mirror and his BMW is racing to catch me.
Using my handsfree, I call RCMP. The complaints officer asks for license number of BMW but when I look in mirror, it is no longer behind me....it is stuck on a median, trying to get through traffic to catch me.
Long story short, I have 5 nice jackets that retail for about $65 a piece that found my seat and didnt cost me a dime
